Our History
Our story begins in 1901 in the town of Faxe, on the southern coast of Zealand, Denmark. The married couple Nikoline and Conrad Nielsen founded Faxe Brewery (Faxe Dampbryggeri) with a simple goal: to craft high-quality malt beer (hvidtøl) for the local community. From the early years, beer formed the core of the business, followed by the introduction of soft drinks. Over the years, the brewery seized opportunities for growth through the acquisitions of several local breweries, laying the foundation for what would later become Royal Unibrew.
A Transformative Journey
In 2013, Royal Unibrew successfully completed a transformational acquisition of the Finnish beverage company Hartwall. This marked the beginning of Royal Unibrew’s transformation into a dynamic, multi-beverage group of companies. Today, we have a strong foothold in the Nordic region and a growing presence in Western Europe—with exciting growth opportunities ahead.
